High-Throughput Polymer Characterizations

The daily polymer throughput at LSP can be up to 96 polymer samples. Standard characterization tools and methods would represent a dramatic bottleneck (a few months of experiment time!), and result into a complete waste of the HTE power. To avoid that, we invested time and resources in order to come up with an array of high-end characterization tools amenable to high-throughput operation. These include, in particular:

 

  • A Bruker Avance III 400 NMR spectrometer equipped with a high-temperature cryoprobe and a pre- heated autosampler (24-well carousel). Experiment time is down to 10 min for a quantitative 13C NMR polyolefin
  • A Polymer Char Analytical Crystallization Elution Fractionation (A-CEF) with a 42-well Experiment time is down to 30 min for a complete polyolefin elution curve.
  • Rapid High-Temperature Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), with a 96-well robotic sample dispenser. Experiment time is down to 10 min for a complete polyolefin GPC curve.
